2017/2018 Course Selection

COURSE SELECTION 2017/2018:

There will be an open house meeting on Wednesday March 8th at 6:00 pm in the Learning Commons for any families that have questions about North Island Secondary School’s course selection process or wish to work with an Advisor to complete the paperwork.

Appointments can also be made with our Academic Advisor Ms. Nina Mitchell nmitchell@sd85.bc.ca 250 956 3394 ext. 4250.

Over the next three weeks your son or daughter will be participating in our course selection process. You should see students bringing home course selection sheets and a course selection handbook.

It is essential that students seriously consider their course requests and how they connect to their pathway through to gradation.

Success in any course may be difficult to achieve if the prerequisite body of knowledge and skills has not already been studied.

In addition, students in Grades 10, 11 and 12 must take into account:

  1. basic graduation requirements;
  2. their own educational and vocational plans; and,
  3. the entrance requirements of any post-secondary institution(s) in which they may be interested (colleges, vocational or trade school, universities).

Courses offered depend on student enrolment for the 2017-2018 school year. No course, however, can be offered without sufficient numbers of students interested in a particular offering. Our spring course selection process helps guide the types of courses offered in 2017-2018.

Students are encouraged to talk to their teachers and with the school advisor for more specific information about course offerings.

Course Selection documents can also be found on our North Island Secondary School website:

Halloween and upcoming dates

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Halloween is just around the corner.  On Monday October 31st students are welcome to wear a Halloween costume to school.  There will be a safety talk by the RCMP and an assembly led by Student Council at 2:30 pm.

When students are choosing their costumes, please be mindful of our school code of conduct.  Costumes should not be offensive to others, disrupt classroom learning, or include a weapon of any kind.

We are asking students not to dress as a “clown” this year due to concerns and alerts throughout our province regarding clown related violent incidents.

Also, as a general reminder there is zero tolerance for weapons or fireworks at school on Halloween Day.

We wish everyone a fun and safe Halloween!
