Welcome Back!

Dear Parents and Guardians:

We are all looking forward to seeing our students return on Wednesday, September 5th, 2018 at 8:50 a.m. until 12:30 a.m.

Students will be attending their homeroom to receive copies of their schedules and locker assignment, attend a brief assembly, and then run through a rotation of their classes. Thursday, September 6th will be a regular school day, with classes starting at 8:50 a.m. and finishing at 3:25 p.m.

Your son’s/daughter’s timetable for the 2018-2019 school year will be mailed home before the end of August. It will also be given to them first thing Wednesday morning in their homeroom. Teachers will also be letting students know what specific school supplies will be needed during the first week of classes.

Many factors go into scheduling students, including the choices students made on their course selection sheets, teacher availability, and province wide mandated composition requirements. We are excited to be able to maintain our academic course offerings, offer new courses, and maintain many elective options at our school. The 2018-2019 school year also continues with redesigned K–9 curriculum and will be transitioning to the new 10-12 curriculum. More information can be located at https://curriculum.gov.bc.ca/

Information about busing and other school schedules and transportation can be found at: http://www.sd85.bc.ca/?page_id=130

We hope we have answered most questions you may have, but if not, please feel free to call the school between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. If you wish to discuss your son’s/daughter’s timetable, please contact the school at 250-956-3394 or niss@sd85.bc.ca to make an appointment with our advisor, Ms. Nina Mitchell.

We are looking forward to another vibrant year of learning at North Island Secondary School.

Yours truly,

Mr. J. Dixon

Principal, NISS
